Bronchitis Causes, Symptoms and Treatment


Bronchitis: When we breathe then air is pulled into the lungs, passing through the nose, mouth in to the trachea. Bronchi are the lower part of the trachea which is divided into two tubes. Bronchitis is an acute inflammation in which the mucus membrane in the lungs. It is a condition in which the tubes of bronchi become inflamed. If people have bronchi then it’s often hard and painful for air to pass through the lungs.

There are two types of Bronchitis:

Acute Bronchitis: Acute bronchitis affects quickly and causes various symptoms. Usually the acute bronchitis is caused by virus which infects the respiratory tract. Some common symptoms are fever, soar throat, runny nose and so on.

Chronic bronchitis: Chronic bronchitis can be mild and is longer. It persists for several months to years. Chronic bronchitis is caused by bacterial infections. In Chronic bronchitis cough occurs every day with sputum. Smokers are mostly suffering from chronic bronchitis.

Causes of bronchitis: Bronchitis is caused by bacteria, smoking, virus or the inhalation of dust or chemical pollutants. Acute bronchitis is usually caused by viruses and also occurs respiratory infection. It is also caused by breathing which irritate the bronchial tubes. It affects your nose, throat and sinuses then spread to the lungs. Chronic bronchitis is a long term condition. The common cause of chronic bronchitis is smoking, coal mining, textile manufacturing dust, air pollution or toxic gases in the environment. People also increased the risk that is getting bronchitis.

Differential Diagnosis: Pneumonia can be developed due to acute and chronic bronchitis and also developed Emphysema.

Symptoms of bronchitis: The symptoms of bronchitis are depending on its type.

Symptoms of Acute Bronchitis:

• Cough may be dry or may produce phlegm.
• Fever -- usually low
• Shortness of breath or mild activity
• Slight fever and chills
• Chest discomfort
• Wheezing (because of muscular tightness)

Symptoms of chronic bronchitis:
• Due to low level of oxygen blue colored lips
• Leg swelling, feet and ankle
• Respiratory Infection or breathing problem
• Rapid heart rate
• Blocked nose and sinuses


Precaution from Bronchitis:
• Most important precaution is avoiding smoke.
• Wear mask to protect your lungs.
• Wash your hands
• Avoid spreading viruses
• Avoid breathing in dust or any chemical fumes.

Treatment of Bronchitis: If you are coughing up blood most days and feeling high fever then take medical checkup from your doctor. Doctor will also suggest you self treatment like take rest, drink fluid. After know full history of your disease doctor may be prescribe you some medicines like Antibiotics to control viral infection, cough medicine to remove irritation in your lungs also recommend some therapy. So take your treatment at right time.
