Splenomegaly means is an enlargement of the spleen. The spleen has a important function involving body cells. It is a medical condition. Spleen is a small organ of lymph system which located on the left side of the abdomen. Spleen filters the blood and maintains healthy white blood and red blood cell. Spleen is also preventing from infection creating white blood cells to combat pathogens. When splenomegaly occur we can see significant changes in the organ's like enlarged spleen, blood cells will be removed that means bloodstream will be reduce.

Causes of Splenomegaly: The spleen enlarges due to excessive work. There are widely causes of splenomegaly like:

Infections: Infections are many types like viral infection such as mononucleosis, bacterial infection such as syphilis, parasitic infections, Cat scratch disease, malaria, AIDS.

Liver Disease: chronic hepatitis C, fatty liver, long standing alcohol abuse, cirrhosis due to chronic hepatitis B.

Cancers: Both Hodgkins and non-Hodgkins lymphoma can cause the spleen to enlarge and Blood cancers, such as leukemia, and lymphomas.

Abnormal red blood cells: spleen filters abnormal blood cells and removes it from the circulatory system which results in abnormal red cells. Some blood cell disorders (thalassemia, spherocytosis, and sickle cell anemia)

Inflammatory disease (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus)
Metabolic disorders, such as Gaucher's disease, Hurler syndrome.

Symptoms of splenomegaly: In some cases Splenomegaly does not have any symptoms abdominal pain and are the common symptom. Enlarge spleen may cause some symptoms such as:
• Night sweats
• Paleness (pallor)
• Abdominal pain (include upper abdominal pain and left upper abdominal pain)
• Generalized weakness
• Frequent infections
• Easy bleeding
• Without eating feeling full and after only a small amount
• Excessive bruising
• Lymph gland swellings are usually caused by infection.

Precaution from Splenomegaly: When pain occurs then do only limitation activity, avoiding contact from sports. Follow all instructions given by doctor. Proper care will be required in this disease.

Treatment of Splenomegaly: When you have experience pain in your left upper abdomen or evidence of bleeding then visit t your doctor. Doctor may seek your disease depending on the causes. The doctor will also perform some exam of your abdomen to check the enlarged spleen. Doctor will also perform some surgical treatment to removal of your spleen.
