Syphilis Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Syphilis is another type of sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by an infection of the bacterium Treponema pallidum. If it is left untreated then it causes serious health problem and increase the risk of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Syphilis is also spread from mother to baby at the time of pregnancy and cause serious complications. Usually syphilis gets from sexual contact with someone who has it. In this the bacteria is passed from one person to another person through direct contact with syphilis sore. The syphilis produces a painless, classic ulcer known as a chancre. It becomes life-threatening disease if it is not treated early.

Causes of Syphilis: Syphilis is caused by an infection of the bacterium Treponema pallidum. During sexual contract it passes from one person to another and it also passed from infected mother to her baby at the time of pregnancy. Any person can pass from a syphilis infection including homosexual, heterosexual and bisexual men and women. Other risk factors are Having HIV/AIDS, having unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners. The bacteria are spread from initial ulcer of an infected person. Syphilis cannot be spread by using the same bathtub, toilet, and clothing, eating utensils, swimming pools or hot tubs or from doorknobs.

Differential diagnosis for Syphilis: If syphilis is untreated then it leads to different disease like:

Meningitis: Meningitis is an infection of the fluid which cover the spinal cord and brain of person. Meningitis is a disease which is usually caused by number of infection like bacteria or viral infection.

Tuberculosis: Tuberculosis is that bacteria which is spread from one person to another. In tuberculosis the bacteria are not killed but it become inactive.

Symptoms of Syphilis: Syphilis has several stages. The first stage of syphilis is primary stage:

When the syphilis bacteria is entered in the body then one or more painless ulcer appear at that place. The first sign of syphilis is a small sore, called a chancre (SHANG-kur). Then the skin exposed to the infection usually rectum, mouth and genitals. In men, a chancre often appears in the genital area and in women it appears on the outer genitals or on the inner part of the vagina. If it is not treated well then it progress to the secondary stage.

Secondary Stage: If it is untreated then it progressed to secondary syphilis. In this the bacteria spread throughout the body. Symptoms will occur in 3 to 6 week. Symptoms are:

• Patchy hair loss
• Headache
• Fever, Fatigue
• Swollen glands
• Sore throat
• Skin rashes
• A flu-like illness, a feeling very tiredness and loss of appetite

Third stage is tertiary syphilis: It is the last stage of syphilis. when secondary syphilis is untreated then infection is continues in the body and also affect the nervous system. Symptoms of tertiary syphilis are:

• Loss of muscle coordination
• Liver disease and anemia
• Gradual loss of vision
• Paralysis

Precaution from Syphilis: We can cure you from syphilis and prevention is very important.
1. Having sex with only one uninfected partner who only has sex with you
2. Use condom during sex it can reduce the risk of syphilis.
3. Awareness is very important.
4. Avid contact with person who is infected from Syphilis

Treatment of Syphilis: The main treatment of syphilis is antibiotic treatment usually penicillin. Proper antibiotic treatment in its primary and secondary cure this disease. Penicillin treatment kills the Syphilis bacteria. The doctor will take simply test to know infections then doctor will tell you all prevention and treatment of Syphilis. Doctor will take your blood test to sure the treatment is effective or not. So take your medical care at early stages of syphilis it can help to reduce the infection.

What is Asterixis? Asterixis is a type of movement disorder characterized by arrhythmic flexion movements of hands evoked by dorsiflexion of the wrists and outstretched arms.
