What is Graves’s disease?

Graves’s disease is an autoimmune disorder which result from the production of thyroid hormones number of disorder may result. Increased thyroid hormones are called thyrotoxicosis(About Thyrotoxicosis). The hormones affect brain development, nervous system, breathing and heart. Thyroid is the small gland in the front of neck. In this immune system attack the thyroid gland and producing too much thyroxin. Mostly graves are found in women rather than men these attacks between the ages of 20 to 40 years. Some thyroid hormones help to regulate control and growth metabolism in the body.

Causes of Graves: It is difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of graves. Graves’s disease may be occurring due to family history. It is caused by disjunction in the body's disease and abnormal immune system which cause thyroid gland. Doctors also make other factors like pregnancy, gender, age, environment and stress. Causes of graves are normally targeted to specific bacterium or other substances. Smoking is also increase the risk factor of grave’s disease. Graves’s disease affects both physical experience and mood.

Menopause: Menopause is the menstrual period which describe changes in women experience before or after she stops menstruating

Hashimoto's Thyroiditis: cause inflammation of thyroid gland.

Symptoms of Graves: There are many symptoms of grave’s disease like:
• Common symptom of graves is goiter means enlargement of thyroid with large neck, tenderness or pain in the neck.

• Loss of weight, especially teenagers
• Fatigue
• Irritability, Difficulty in sleeping
• Fast heart beat and blood pressure changes
• Muscles weakness, joint pains especially in arm and leg muscles
• Eye swelling, redness, pressure and pain
• Gastrointestinal Problems: frequent bowel movement or diarrhea.
• Changes in the menstrual cycle
• Enlargement thyroid gland
• Brittle nails
• Sensitivity to heat
• Insomnia (About Insomnia)


Prevention from Graves Disease: There is no prevention for graves but early diagnosis help to control the complication. Choose best health care who give better treatment for grave’s disease.

Treatment of Graves Disease: Treatment option is depending on the thyroid, eye related or skin symptoms. Take proper medical care by specialist. Doctor may take some test like thyroid test and so on to know the history of disease. Doctor may recommend many treatments like Radioiodine therapy to get normal thyroid hormones, medication used to block the symptoms of thyroid, Anti-thyroid medications help to prevent hormones production, surgery, eye muscle surgery to remove portion of bone between eye sockets and also help to reduce the irritation and discomfort.

What is Asterixis? Asterixis is a type of movement disorder characterized by arrhythmic flexion movements of hands evoked by dorsiflexion of the wrists and outstretched arms.
