Gastroenteritis is that condition which causes inflammation and irritation of the stomach and intestine. This condition can afflict both female and male at any age. Gastroenteritis has many names like Tummy flu, Stomach bug, Gastric flu and Intestinal flu. Food poisoning is also a type of gastroenteritis. It can be transferred by contact with contaminated water and food. In most cases gastroenteritis is caused by infection, viruses and bacteria which resulting in vomiting and diarrhea.

Causes of Gastroenteritis: Gastroenteritis is an infection disease and these infections are caused from virus and bacteria. Bacteria and viruses can spread through contaminated food or water. The infection of gastroenteritis is spread through from one person to another person because of improper hand wash. Some causes are food allergies, heavy metals and other medicines. Many types of viruses can cause gastroenteritis. Most common types are:

Astrovirus: This virus is mostly affected to young children, and the elderly. It is most active in winter season.

Norovirus: 50 to 70 percent cases are caused by norovirus Gastroenteritis in adults. It spread rapidly through contaminated food or water, direct contact with infected people. Noroviruses can be spread through contact with an infected person by eating or drinking.

Rotavirus: Most of children have been affected to the virus by age of 2 years. Children with rota virus have vomiting, fever and abdominal pain.

Caliciviruses: It causes infection in all age of persons. In these cases the symptoms are vomiting, diarrhea and muscle aches.

Symptoms of Gastroenteritis: The symptoms of gastroenteritis are depending on the causes. The symptoms are diarrhea and vomiting. According to the causes the symptoms is begin in 1 or 2 days. The symptom of gastroenteritis shows infection on upper small bowel and in colon. Some symptoms are:

Dehydration
• Muscle aches and pains
• Excessive sweating
• Joint stiffness
• Abdominal pain
• Low-grade fever.
• Leakage (incontinence) of stool
• Weight loss.
• Poor feeding


Some serious symptoms are lack of urine, rectal bleeding, and change in alertness, Unresponsiveness, dry skin and dry mouth. Some time it becomes life threatening symptoms.

Precautions from Gastroenteritis: There are lots of precautions step which help to cure gastroenteritis: Some precautions are:

1. Healthy person should stay away from that people who are ill.
2. In case you contact with sick person, after going to toilet, before eating food then you should wash your hand with soap and water.
3. Always drink fresh and boiled water.
4. Surface or object which have been exposed to vomit must be clean as soon as.
5. Use disposal towel to remove vomits.
6. Toilet should be clean after use and always wash your hands.
7. Eat fresh, raw meet food.

Treatment of Gastroenteritis: For the best medical treatment of gastroenteritis you have to checkup yourself from specialist doctor who will take a medical history the recommend you manual procedure for treatment. Doctor will prescribe you antibiotic treatment, some medicine to control diarrhea, to reduce dehydration drink water and fluid.
