Meningitis Causes, Symptoms and Treatment


Meningitis is an infection of the fluid which cover the spinal cord and brain of person. Meningitis is a disease which is usually caused by number of infection like bacteria or viral infection. The infection is mostly occurs in teens, children and young adults also have a risk for that people who have long term health problem like weakened immune system.

There are commonly two main type of meningitis:

Viral meningitis: Viral meningitis is most common type of meningitis and less infected than bacterial meningitis of the fluid in the spinal cord. Usually viral meningitis does not cause serious illness.

Bacterial meningitis: Bacterial meningitis is very serious infection. Severe bacterial meningitis can result in brain damage and death. In this type it is important to know that which type of bacteria is causing because we can prevent it from spreading. There are three types of bacteria:

Haemophilus influenzae: It is also known as Hib.

Neisseria meningitidis: It is primary disease of young children.

Streptococcus pneumoniae: This type of bacteria is found in higher environment.

Causes of meningitis: Meningitis is usually caused by infection from viruses, parasites, bacteria, fungi, and certain organisms. Bacteria cause will cause in the nose and throat. This disease can cause from one person to another. Bacterial meningitis has serious affect like hearing loss, brain damage, ear infection; it spread among people by sneezing and coughing. Meningitis has also cause from certain disease like AIDS, Physical injury, Diabetes, certain drugs and cancer. Second viral is spread from mosquitoes and other insects.

Symptoms of meningitis: septicemia and meningitis has similar symptoms. The symptoms of meningitis have easily found all symptoms developed in one or two days. Some early symptoms are:

• Nausea and vomiting
• Fever and chills
• Headache
• Rashes
• Muscle pain
• Breathing fast

Some symptoms in young children:

• Refusing food
• Very sleepy
• Very cold hands and feet
• Whimpering and crying
• Confusion, irritable or sleepiness
• Severe pain in back.


In children meningitis is dead full condition. So, it’s important to take treatment at early stages.

Precaution from meningitis: For the precaution of meningitis you can use mask. Try to wear mask at all time to avoid the infection of meningitis. Take some healthy steps like eat healthy diet, fresh vegetables and fruits. Antibiotic treatment is good for meningitis.

Treatment of Meningitis: Meningitis is very dangerous disease so the treatment should be start as soon as possible. The treatment of meningitis is depending on the causing infection. There are several treatments like antibiotic which is administered by injection. Others are Corticosteroids, Anticonvulsants, Oxygen therapy (when difficulty in breathing), Fluid control (In the case of dehydration) and blood test. To recover from this disease it’s important to take good medical checkup by doctor. Doctor will recommend you best treatment.
