Glaucoma Causes, Symptoms and Treatment


What is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is a group of disease which causes damage to the optic nerve. It is a number of different types of eye disease which steal eyesight without warning. There are millions of people in all over the world who is suffering from glaucoma. Glaucoma mainly damage to the optic nerve, the optic nerve which receive lights from the retina and carries information from eye to brain. Generally optic nerve damage due to eye pressure and also causes poor regulation of blood flow. Glaucoma is lifelong problem sometime it is leading the blindness. We cannot cure glaucoma it can be treated because in every case of eye sight there is the chance of blindness. It is second leading cause of blindness.

Now the question is arise how can people realize that they are suffering from Glaucoma?

First thing is that people realize that something wrong with their eyesight, Will have difficulty in seeing the things lose their vision this is the early warning sign of glaucoma. Slowly it can be deteriorating in to blindness. 80 percent of people are affected with “open-angle" or "chronic simple" these two types of glaucoma is most common in people. It is best that we start the treatment in early stage of glaucoma.

There are mainly two types of glaucoma:

Open-Angle Glaucoma: This type of glaucoma is most common in people it is caused due to the eye pressure. Open angel means angel is between the iris and cornea. It starts develop slowly and become lifelong condition. It is also called primary or chronic glaucoma. Mainly it affects the people over the age of 35. Different variants of open-angle glaucoma are:

Secondary glaucoma: It is occur with some external factors like cataract, retinal detachment, reaction in eyes.
Pigmentary glaucoma: It is most common in younger men and this is caused due to rubbing and dangerous for normal vision.
Infantile glaucoma: It is also called congenital glaucoma. This type of glaucoma is generally occur in babies the drainage area does not developed properly before birth.
Pseudo exfoliation or the Exfoliative glaucoma: It is caused due to the outer layer of lens in the eyes. The flaky material is collect in the angel of eye and in front of lens and causing eye pressure.
Normal pressure glaucoma: It is occur due to the reduction flow of blood to the optic nerve. In this the cell of optic nerve is get damaged which cause loss of vision.

Closed-angle glaucoma: It is less common type of glaucoma, It is caused by blocked drainage canals and it develops very quickly. It is also called Angle-Closure Glaucoma. In this you feel pain in your eyes when you watching television. Closed-angle glaucoma is treated by eye drop. People with small eyes are mainly affected from angle glaucoma.

Causes of Glaucoma: Glaucoma is generally increased by the pressure in your eyes, blockage in part of the eyes, and weakness in optic nerve, it is more common when you get older and your age cross over 35, other factor is family history if someone in your family is affected from glaucoma then it increasing the risk of glaucoma. People who are suffering from diabetes are also affected by glaucoma. We all know that glaucoma is second most common cause of blindness. All causes are depending on the different types of glaucoma.

Symptoms of Glaucoma: In glaucoma symptoms are depend on the type of glaucoma. Most common symptom of glaucoma is changes in vision. Each type has its own symptoms like in acute angle-closure glaucoma the signs are redness in eyes, intense pain, blurred vision and headache loss of vision in both eyes. Secondary glaucoma is caused by the injury it is may be difficult to find the symptoms in secondary glaucoma. Most of people are affected from open angle glaucoma in this optic nerve has damage and lead to vision; it is develop slowly, in this total blindness will occur. Some other signs are feeling sick or vomiting, redness in your eyes.

Precaution from Glaucoma: Eyes is very sensitive part of our body so it’s important that we fully care of our eyes. First precaution is that take regular check up for your eyes, after consulting your doctor you can do some yoga which is beneficial for eyes some yoga asans are Shavasana (Corpse’s Pose) and Padmasana which is helpful to reduce the eye pressure, rest the eyes regularly and bath your eyes from cold water. ll these steps are very useful to protect your eyes from glaucoma.

Treatment of Glaucoma: Treatment of eyes is very important and mainly glaucoma is treated from eye drops. There are different types of drops available in the market and it is very important that you show your eyes to best eyes specialist who take proper care of your eyes because you can’t take any risk. There are many surgeries which is used for treating the eyes like laser operation for eyes, ophthalmologist surgery, Trabeculectomy surgery it is used when medicines and laser treatment does not affect on your eyes.
