What is Gum Disease?

Gum disease is an infection of the bones and tissues urrounded and supports the teeth. It is  very common problem in younger or adult people  can be happen with  all ages of people like children’s can get gum disease too and cause serious pain in teeth. There are two types of Gum Disease:

Gingivitis: Many People have gingivitis disease and cause the gums to become red, swollen and bleed easily when teeth are brushed. Gingivitis is often caused by inadequate oral hygiene and untreated gingivitis can be advance to periodontitis.

Periodontitis: Periodontitis causes the gum and bacteria can grow that damages the teeth. Plaque can spread the gum and toxins produced by the bacteria in plaque. Gums can also shrink and back from the teeth. Untreated gum can cause very serious problem, causing teeth to become loose or fall out.

Causes of Gum Disease: Gums are serious infection disease caused by bacteria that are normally in the mouth and can be cause by various numbers of factors like:

Smoking/Tobacco: As we know that tobacco creates many serious illness like cancer, lung disease and other health problems. Tobacco is significant risk factors in the development of periodontal disease.

Genetics: 30% of the population may be affected by genetically to gum disease.

Pregnancy and Menopause in Women: At the time of menstruation or pregnancy woman's body experiences hormonal changes that can affect many tissues including gums or it may affect on pregnancy.
Stress: Stress can also increase the risk of gums, cancer, tension or other health problem.

Medications: Some drugs can affect your oral health.

Diabetes: It causes altered levels of sugar in the blood.
A poor diet increases the risk of gums.

Symptoms of Gum Disease:  Some symptoms are:
Gums are swollen, red and tender.
Gums bleed easily at the time of brushing
Gums pull away or shrink from the teeth
Bad breath
Pus coming from the gums
Loose teeth
An unpleasant taste in the mouth
Problems in eating
More swelling than with gingivitis

Precaution from gums:
Brush your teeth daily 2 times a day
Avoid tobacco and smoking
Take regular checkup by your dentist

Treatment of Gum Disease: If anyone has a gum disease then takes care by brushing your teeth and get regular checkup from your dentist. Your dentist will take X-rays of your teeth and other problems clean your teeth using a method called root planning which help to remove plaque and tartar. Doctor will suggest you antibiotic treatment of the infection in your mouth.

  1. Your post will help people to know about gum disease in details. It is true that smoking is one of the major risk factors of gum disease. Few months back my father had his dental implants in New York and he was advised to stop smoking. Therefore people should quit smoking to maintain good oral health.

  2. For avoid gum disease it is better to avoid smoking because today smoking increases many types of health risks. It leads to cancer was well.
