What is Pinworm?

Pinworm is an intestinal infection or a type of little worm caused by tiny parasitic worms. These parasites are also known as threadworms or seatworms. Pin worm is most common infection in united states. Pinworms are small, white and thin measuring about 1/4 inch to 1/2 in length. These problems are most common in school age children and its egg spread directly from person to person or children to children. They can spread by touching food bedding or other items of if children scratch their bottom or neglect to wash hand after using bathroom. Adults are less affected from pinworms. About 40 millions of people are infected from pinworm in US.

Causes of pinworm: A pin worm is infected due to the poor hygiene when you accidentally swallow pinworm eggs or someone with pinworms scratches around the anus and touches you or a surface that you later touch.Over the next several weeks egg mature and hatch in to adult worm. Pinworm spread easily in school children, families, camps and other places. Thin infection can affected to any one. Due to genetic factor it can cause if one family member has pinworms then otheprobably do too.

Symptoms of pinworm: Pinworm is mainly infected children 5 to 10 years old and has some minor symptoms, many people with infection has no symptoms. Some symptoms are:
Itching of the anal or vaginal area
Irritability, Insomnia and restlessness
Nausea and Abdominal pain
loss of appetite
Difficulty in getting sleep
Worms in stool
Pain or burning when urinating
If scratching occur then skin may break down

If anyone has these symptoms then they may have serious condition and need to consult your doctor.

Precautions of pinworm: You can cure yourself by following some steps like:
Wash your hand carefully
Avoid scratching and itching
Wash bedding and clothes regularly
Change you underwear everyday

Treatment of pinworm: Pinworm can be treated by a medicine usually a single tablet of mebendazole if infection persists. The drug dose every 3 weeks or 3 times.Another albendazole help to reduce the inflammation or a side effects of the drug . Pyrantel pamoate medicine available without prescription. All these drugs are given in 1 dose at first and another dose 2 week later. If any one has repeated infection then it can be treated by same method. Take your proper treatment by a doctor who have a good experience. Doctor recommend all medicine after knowing the history of your disease.
