What is Cardiogenic shock?

Cardiogenic shock is a condition in which the heart has been damaged and heart suddenly unable to supply enough blood to meet your body's requirement. This shock decreased pumping ability of the heart. Cardiogenic shock is a complication of variety chronic and acute disorders, it is based upon an inadequate circulation of blood. Most often cardiogenic shock is caused by a severe heart attack which leads to death from oxygen starvation. It is very dangerous for health.

Causes of Cardiogenic: Cardiogenic shock occurs when your heart can't pump enough blood. Cardiogenic shock is caused due to damage of the heart muscles by a heart attack. It happens when your heart's main pumping chamber is damages due to lack of oxygen. Cardiogenic is one type of shock other type include vasodilatory (VAZ-oh-DILE-ah-tor-e) shock and hypovolemic (hy-po-vo-LEE-mik).

In hypovolemic shock heart can’t pump enough blood to the rest of your body.
In vasodilatory shock blood vessels are relaxed, blood flow becomes very low and oxygen doesn’t reach to the body’s organs.

Other causes factors are inflammation of the heart muscle, infection of the heart valves; drug overdoses which can affect your heart pumping ability. If it is not treated quickly then it causes damage or death.

Symptoms of Cardiogenic shock: Symptoms of shock often be dependent on the underlying causes. Some sign and symptoms of shock include:

Shortness of breath
Confusion
Rapid heartbeat
Pale skin
Cold feet’s or hands
Loss of fainting or consciousness
Kidneys may fail, decrease in urine
Diarrhea often occurs


Usually Cardiogenic shock occurs due to heart attack, so it is necessary to know the symptoms of heart attack:
Nausea and vomiting
Chest pain
Shortness of breath
Squeezing pain in the center of your chest

Treatment of cardiogenic shock: If it is not treated quickly then it cause death or damage and quickly treatment improves the chances of survival and minimizes damage to your heart. Doctor will take all the history of your shock, blood laboratory test will be performed, Radiologic tests and advised medicines. These treatment help to restore blood flow and help the heart pump better. Patient will be treated through endotracheal intubation, nasal cannulae or a face mask. Intravenous drugs can be used to control blood pressure. Take your medical attention quickly this help to decrease the chances of cardiogenic shock.
