What is Anismus?

Anismus is a medical condition, a cause of constipation and painful defecation. it consist other medical names include paradoxical puborectalis contraction and pelvic floor dyssynergia. It refers a malfunction of the puborectalis muscle and external anal sphincter during an attempted bowel motion. Anismus is mostly occurs in young children and women and in people with certain rectal problems.

Causes of anismus: Causes of anismus are similar to constipation and it is probably a specific voluntary sphincter muscle abnormality. There are numbers of factors can cause the anismus like:
• Dehydration or inadequate fluid
• Lack of physical activity
• Irritable bowel syndrome
• Problems with the rectum or colon
• Anismus is the real cause of constipation
• Lack of some minerals and vitamin
• Anxiety is a cause of anismus slow down bowel and resulting constipation

Symptoms of Anismus: Symptoms are often same as constipation. Some symptoms include:
• Constipation or pain with bowel movements
• Abdominal Pain, bladder or Anal pain
• No bowel movements for several days
• Tiredness
• Nausea or poor appetite

Treatment of anismus: The treatment of anismus is based on clinical examination. Doctor will take full checkup and usually recommend an injection of botulinum toxin and may recommend medication to improve your symptoms. Some procedure to treat anismus includes surgical procedures and manual procedures. Take your full treatment with experienced doctor who can understand whole history of your disease.
