What is Quadriplegic?

Quadriplegic
is a form of the motor disorder means the part of spinal cord inside the neck has been injured and injured spinal cord result in loss of sensation and function of the bladder and bowel. Quadriplegic is a paralysis affected both legs and arms in which arm and leg movements are difficult and stiff. Persons are unable to perform functions such as gripping an object, walking or moving positions more challenging. Quadriplegia refers to the paralysis (About Paralysis) of four limbs. Paraplegia (About Paraplegia) is similar Quadriplegia but not affect to arms.

Causes of Quadriplegia: Quadriplegia may be caused by injuries, spine, brain, mostly to the spinal cord, damage to the cervical spinal cord segments and neck. These causes impact on varying different section in the body like arms and legs. There are two types of cause Quadriplegia like:

Traumatic causes have many factors include traffic accidents, Domestic accidents, sport related injuries, complications following surgeries.

Non-traumatic cause’s factors are bacterial infection, viral infection of the spinal nerve cells, spinal cord damaged by interruption of the blood supply, medical condition which presents from the birth affect the structure of spinal column.

Symptoms of Quadriplegia: spinal cord injury is highly producing more paralysis. Spinal cord at neck may cause paralysis in both legs and arms. Spinal cord injuries may result one or more symptoms like:

• Loss of sensation in your fingers, hands, feet or toes
• Loss of movement
• Loss of bowel or bladder control
• Changes in sexual sensitivity
• Difficulty coughing, breathing from your heart


Due to less functioning patient may develop other symptoms like;

• Fractures and osteoporosis
• Cardiovascular disease
• Respiratory infections and complications
• Pressure sores
• Chronic pain
• Low blood pressure
• People may also become depression due to lack of emotional support


Prevention:

• Drive safely
• Don't move the injured person, provide basic first aid
• Take your regular doctor
• Avoid sport moves, wear sport gears when playing


Treatment of Quadriplegia: Quadriplegia treatment depends on the nature of a person's condition. Take immediate medical care when anyone can experience for the possibility of a spinal injury, loss of functioning in certain areas of body. Doctor will take physical examination of body include physical therapy to improve mobility, restore function and suggest. Other treatment will include occupational Therapy restore or improve life skill development, Spinal Traction, skin treatment, electric stimulation therapy, mental health therapy and so on. Mostly treatment focuses on preventing further injury, on relieving of discomfort or pain. Doctor may prescribe you Medications like steroids help to reduce and prevent spinal cord swelling, blood pressure medicine and many more.
